Housing and Community

ARRA funds will be used to help people maintain their rented housing in time of job loss or help communities stimulate economic activity through construction of low income housing. This will be done through the Homelessness Prevention Fund, the Tax Credit Assistance Program, and the Community Development Fund. The department of Community Affairs is taking the lead on housing and community development programs.

Department of Community Affairs

Community Development Grant - The CDBG program is administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which uses funds allocated through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support local initiatives that focus on improving living conditions and economic opportunities throughout the state.  Projects include, but are not limited to, housing, public infrastructure, public facilities and assistance to for-profit entities for LMI job creation.  More Information

Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing - This program will provide financial assistance and services to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.  More Information

Tax Credit Assistance Program (TCAP) -  Authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, these funds will be allocated to owners of eligible rental housing properties (of which all or a portion of the units are reserved for occupancy by low income tenants) awarded low income housing tax credits via the Georgia State Qualified Allocation Plan.  More Information

Employment for Older Workers - These grant awards foster individual economic self sufficiency; provide training in meaningful part-time opportunities in community service activities for unemployed low-income persons who are age 55 years of age or older, particularly persons who have poor employment prospects; and increase the number of older persons who may enjoy the benefits of unsubsidized employment in both the public and private sectors.

The Corporation for National and Community Service Operating Expenses - Has awarded Georgia the AmericorpsState and National Recovery Act Grant to assist current Georgia Americorps grantees in their efforts to stimulate the economy through expanded and new Americorps programs.

Tax Credit Exchange Program - This award provides funding assistance for the Tax Credit Exchange Program (TCEP) authorized under Section 1602 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. TCEP permits the exchange of tax credits for cash grants to be provided for the construction, acquisition, and rehabilitation of low income and affordable housing projects.

 

Implementation Plans
